‘... Osmond has a light touch, a sharp wit, an eye for detail …’

Living North Magazine

From long fiction to very, very short

Hello and welcome to my website. Here you’ll find details of all my books and a selection of my short stories

If you’d like to read excerpts, I’ve included those too.

To date, I’ve written four romantic comedies that combine humour with a fair amount of heartache. My first book, Who’s Afraid of Mr Wolfe? was shortlisted for Romantic Comedy of the Year 2012 by the Romantic Novelists Association. The Mysterious Miss Mayhew was chosen as one of New Writing North’s Read Regional books in 2016.

I also write short stories and was lucky enough to win the Woman & Home short story competition (in association with Costa) in 2008 and in 2009, the Yeovil Short story prize.

Since then, my stories have won, been placed, shortlisted and long-listed in a variety of other competitions, including the Bath Short Story Award, the Fish Short Story Prize, Writing Magazine and the Scottish Arts Club Short Story Award.

I’ve recently been experimenting and learning about Flash Fiction too and have had success in a number of competitions from the Bath Flash Fiction Award and Mslexia Flash Fiction Competition to Hastings LitFest, Retreat West Flash Fiction Prize and the Oxford Flash Fiction Prize 2021.

My short stories have been published in several magazines, including My Weekly and The Sunday Express Magazine.

In my spare time, you’ll generally find me mooching around places associated with books and I have chaired Book Festival and bookshop events with some fascinating and entertaining people – these include Emma Healey, Salley Vickers, Phyllida Law, Victoria Hislop, Emma Bridgwater and Mick Kitson.

There are plenty of ways for you to get in touch on the Contact Details and Photo page and I hope you do. It would be lovely to hear from you.
