‘... Osmond has a light touch, a sharp wit, an eye for detail …’

Living North Magazine

Writer of books and award-winning short stories

Hello and welcome to my website. Here you’ll find details of all Hazel Osmond books and a selection of my short stories, and I’ve included plenty of excerpts for you to read.

To date, I’ve written four romantic comedies that combine humour with a fair amount of heartache. Who’s Afraid of Mr Wolfe? was shortlisted for Romantic Comedy of the Year 2012 by the Romantic Novelists Association. Next came The First Time I Saw Your Face and Playing Grace, followed by The Mysterious Miss Mayhew which was chosen as one of New Writing North’s Read Regional books in 2016.

I was lucky enough to win the Woman & Home short story competition (in association with Costa) in 2008 and in 2009, the Yeovil Short story prize.

My stories and flash fiction have also been placed, shortlisted or long-listed in a variety of other competitions from the Bath Short Story Award and the Fish Short Story Prize to Writers’ Forum and the Hasting’s LitFest writing competition.

In addition, I’ve had short stories published in several magazines, including My Weekly and The Sunday Express Magazine.

In my blog, I’ll be passing on news and celebrating all things bookish. From fiction and non-fiction to bookshops, libraries and author events.

Speaking of author events, I have chaired Book Festival and bookshop events with some fascinating and entertaining people – these include Emma Healey, Salley Vickers, Phyllida Law, Victoria Hislop, Emma Bridgwater and Mick Kitson.

There are plenty of ways for you to get in touch on the Contact Details and Photo page and I hope you do. It would be lovely to hear from you.
